One of the problems with updating you from the studio is that when I come to see the photos later on my PC, they don’t look very good quality: the colours are muddier and the focus isn’t great. Here are some higher resolution photos of my latest painting (still no title as yet!) and the stages of the painting from today taken with my proper camera. In future I think I’ll wait to use the high quality images before posting- unless you like the immediate approach. (I share photos from the studio on Instagram so you can always see them at vividlyvivowen ) Let me know what you think!
Completed painting: oil on canvas 40 x 40 x 3cm

Happy to have a fresh start today – and my lightweight telescopic easel came in very useful as I had to move several times because of the sun!
In other news, I have some drawings in the Unit 9 group sketchbook project ‘Sketch it Out’ at South Square Gallery, Thornton on now. I don’t have installation photos yet, so here’s a drawing from my visit to The Hepworth Wakefield earlier this week :
The next exhibition to include my paintings is the Original 200 show at Cupola Gallery, Sheffield starting in September. More details on the website exhibitions page. I hope to have more to share soon.
Several things to update you on! Firstly, delighted to see one of my paintings in her beautiful home. (Thanks to Lisa Gray at FLUX exhibition):
Back in the studio today, some more progress:
Exhibitions: some of my drawings are in the Sketch it Out exhibition at South Square Gallery: a project with members of Unit 9 to exchange ideas and techniques by a sketchbook relay.
I’ve had confirmation of acceptance for another exhibition, more details soon.
And to close, here’s the limited time offer from Artfinder
Something a bit different for Artwalk tomorrow. I’ll be exhibiting and drawing at the Cathedral Centre, Westmorland Street (next to The Raven pub). Thanks to Rachel Richardson @bobshaped for organising!
Fay and Click are on show until Saturday at Exhibit Here’s Unleashed, Menier Gallery, Southwark
Thanks to all the visitors to open studios at Artwalk Wakefield on Wednesday evening. Almost completed the latest painting: I enjoyed painting with an audience
Have a look at Daily Drawings 2016 updated for this month.
I will be announcing two more exhibitions soon. Glad to be busy!
David began his career in the visual arts as a practising artist and the in recent years established along with his then Project Director, Design Centre North, a gallery which programmed an exciting schedule of contemporary design and applied arts, initiating and delivering a strategic and consistent approach to audience development, working extensively with the Design Museum and the British Council.
In 2009, David secured the position of Curator in a new multi million pound purpose built arts venue which includes a gallery, work spaces and a performance space. Within this environment David has built a reputation for curating and exhibiting contemporary design and applied arts in the North of England. Working in partnership and in collaboration with other regional and National galleries is the key factor to deliver this ambitious project.
